Collaborating with service clubs to make an impact together is a powerful way for entrepreneurs to amplify their message and work in their communities. This case study features Candace Plattor, M.A., who successfully implemented a book sponsorship initiative around the observance: National Addictions Awareness Week (NAAW), held annually in November. This year, from November 16 to 22, 2025, the NAAW focus is on prevention, harm reduction, and addiction treatment in Canada. It is headed up and organized by the Canadian Centre on Substance Use and Addiction (CCSA), with NAAW providing resources and encouraging conversation to improve the lives of those affected by substance use. This is an important observance for Candace and her Love With Boundaries team.

National Addictions Awareness Week Tools

In support of this observance, Candace and her team have put together some helpful tools – one for each day of the National Addictions Awareness Week – to prepare you for the season ahead.

Candace Plattor is the founder and owner of Love With Boundaries, which provides counselling services to family members and loved ones of individuals who are struggling with addictions. They work with clients around the globe. Their signature counselling program, books, eBooks, online course, and online group counselling programs are making a difference in the lives of families. This year, Candace was the recipient of the AgeCare Seniors Award of Distinction for Leadership. Congratulations Candace!

Helping Families Through Sponsorship

In 2023, Candace and her team set a goal to help more families locally who have loved ones struggling with addictions through a Help Us Help Them campaign. They aimed to arrange sponsorships for Candace’s award-winning book, Loving An Addict, Loving Yourself: The Top 10 Survival Tips For Loving Someone With An Addiction, so that the Love With Boundaries team could donate these sponsored books to families and local organizations, crisis organizations, treatment centres, and detox centres.

Working together with Candace and her team, we developed and implemented a strategy to represent a service club and collaborate with them on sponsoring books for community organizations. In Candace’s case, she presented a talk on addictions at several Rotary Clubs and invited them to sponsor books for local organizations. The first club sponsored 30 books. Another sponsored 20 books, then a private business sponsored 10, and 3 individuals also sponsored books as a result of me simply mentioning Candace’s Help Us Help Them campaign. This was very powerful because Candace’s presentation provided valuable education about addictions to the Rotary Club members and engaged them in making a difference.

On the administrative side, I worked with Candace and her team to create a letter, pricing form, and script to frame the invitation (the “ask”) in the presentation. A Love With Boundaries team member followed up with the clubs following the presentation. This was a key step.

Love With Boundaries will likely be continuing this as an ongoing sponsorship strategy to make a difference, to get Candace’s book into the hands of people who need it most, and to collaborate with local organizations.
