I love sharing Laura Lane’s story, especially in September, which is National Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. Laura has a beautiful and powerful dream she is raising, and collaboration and sponsorship are helping her fuel the dream and make a bigger impact. Laura has been collaborating to help parents of children with cancer through a special planner called Stronger Daily Planner for Cancer Moms. Based on her experience as a parent of a child with cancer, she wanted to help other parents navigate this incredibly stressful, overwhelming, and emotional journey. This planner helps parents do this.
The Stronger Daily Planner for Cancer Moms is a daily / weekly / monthly tracker for all things childhood cancer related. It includes a recommended resource section, helpful tips from other cancer moms, and inspirational quotes. Please check it out HERE; it’s a great way to show your support during National Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.More...
Community Spotlight: How Laura Lane is Giving Back Through Collaboration
Before I tell you about the amazing collaborations Laura has built and the sponsors she has engaged, let me tell you about her. Laura Lane is a big thinker, a passionate creator, and a heart-centered difference-maker helping families who have children battling cancer. As a coach, she offers clients hope for what often feels like hopeless situations. She offers skills to women of faith who want to learn how to develop grace under pressure during the daily struggle of living in a world that feels crazier every day.
As a bereaved cancer mom, Laura recognizes the heartache and daily stress that face many women today. In her books, Two Mothers One Prayer: Facing your child’s cancer with Hope, Strength & Courage and I Touch the Heavens: Spiritual Insights after Tragedy, Laura shares with her readers the beautiful insights and spiritual journey she faced with the devastating news of her daughter Celeste’s terminal cancer diagnosis. From these experiences and as a way of giving back, Laura has passionately compiled a rich collection of resources and tools to share with other cancer families all over the world. She invites families to attend her events, listen to her Hope Strength Courage podcasts, and read her blog posts. Laura's Stronger Daily Planner (and soon-to-be-released mobile app) provides opportunities for sponsors to support cancer families through the planner, events, and more.
Building Relationships to Make a Difference for Cancer Families
This is where Laura’s strategies and skills at relationship building have really made a difference! She wanted to have the planner available to parents through local children's hospitals like Toronto’s Sick Kids Hospitals, New York’s Sloan Kettering and Salt Lake City’s Primary Children’s Hospital as well as Ronald MacDonald House Family rooms, at no cost to the parents or the hospitals.
Laura and I worked together and identified potential sponsors and a strategy that Laura felt comfortable with and was doable. She stepped into action immediately—setting up calls with potential sponsors she knew and had relationships with, arranging meetings for organizations she wanted to collaborate with, and contacting children’s Hospitals and Ronald MacDonald Houses and other childhood cancer organizations to see how many planners were needed for families.
She is now partnering with more than 17 hospitals and a number of different sponsors who purchase the planners for them to then be donated to the hospitals, Ronald MacDonald Houses, and the families. From real estate companies to hockey teams, Laura has engaged a variety of companies to pay the planners forward.
As a case study, this is a beautiful example of collaboration, community involvement, and making a difference in the lives of families.
Every time I read what Laura is doing or listen to her talk about her projects, I am emotionally moved and I am pretty certain that is also the experience of the organizations and the prospective partners with whom she engages.
